Famous Musicians in Concert
Today at Karl Marx Theatre
French musicians Yannick
Noah, Mc Solaar, Florent
Pagny and Jehro; Ketama
band’s former singer
Spaniard Antonio Carmona;
and Cuban musicians Ernan
Lopez Nussa, X Alfonso and
Raul Paz will meet today at
the Karl Marx theatre at
8:30 p.m to deliver the
second edition of the
concert entiled Escuelas
contra huracanes
(Schools against
Hurricanes), after their
visit the day before to the
areas hit by the hurricanes
in the westernmost province
of Pinar del Rio.
The musicians toured the
town of San Diego de los
Baños, in Los Palacios
municipality, which was
severely affected in 2008 by
hurricanes Ike and Paloma.
They also visited the Isabel
Rubio school and gave a
concert at the Federico
Engels Vocational
Pre-university School, where
Raul Paz, the man behind
this initiative jointly
organized by UNICEF, the
Cuban Ministry of Culture
and the Cuban Institute of
Music studied twenty years
ago.
X Alfonso and Raul Paz
played for nearly an hour
and lived up to the
expectations of the nearly
6,000 students that gathered
there. The audience lived a
new experience when French
musicians Florent Pagny, Mc
Solaar, Antonio Carmona and
Yannick Noah went on stage.
Bearing a certain
resemblance to Bob Marley,
Parisian Yannick Noah’s
performance was thoroughly
enjoyed by thousands of
students who found
themselves captivated by his
musical genius.
Today’s concert will be the
second of a series of
concerts promoted by Paz.
The first one took place in
Paris in May; while the next
one will be in Spain in
December. The funds raised
will be donated to UNICEF.
