University-2010
International Congress to Open Next Week
Havana, Feb
5, (RHC).-
Organizers of the 7th University-2010 International
Conference, to begin next week in Havana announced that
the event will include for the first time a workshop on
food security and sovereignty.
The director
of Science and Technique Department at the Cuban Higher
Education Ministry and head of the event’s scientific
program Jose Luis Garcia said the issues discussed would
be a continuation of what was discussed in 2008 and
2009.
Garcia said
that the one of the major issues open for discussion
would be the trend to privatize higher education in the
region.
He said that
half of the colleges in Latin America are private, but
with some exceptions, public universities have more
students and better curriculum.
Over 2,000
delegates from 50 countries and 1,000 Cuban participants
are expected to attend this congress; this includes some
20 Education Ministers and 200 university rectors.
The event's
program will feature roundtable discussions, panels, and
45 master lectures.
