Honorary Doctorate Given to Fidel Castro
Havana, Dec
3, (RHC-ACN).- The Jose Antonio Echeverria University (CUJAE)
in Havana awarded the leader of the Cuban Revolution,
Fidel Castro, with the Honoris Causa Doctorate during a
ceremony held on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of
the foundation of the educational center.
Cuban Vice
President Jose Ramon Fernandez received the award from
Alicia Alonso, rector of higher education center, on
behalf of Fidel, “who is a substantial part of CUJAE’s
history.”
Alonso said
that several generations of students who have
contributed to the country’s economic and social
development have graduated from this center. “Our thanks
to Fidel for making the dream of student leader Jose
Antonio Echeverria come true, for being the teacher
forging the new generations of Cubans, for promoting
everything that can lift up the dignity and development
of human beings.”
Higher
Education Minister Miguel Diaz-Canel called on the
institution’s students and workers to put all of their
potential into looking for an alternative in increasing
productivity and reducing imports.
Also present
at the ceremony were Computer Sciences and
Communications Minister, Commander of the Revolution
Ramiro Valdes; Vice President of the Cuban National
Assembly, Jaime Crombet; First Secretary of the Cuban
Communist Party in Havana, Lazara Mercedes Lopez; and
representatives from the diplomatic corps accredited to
Cuba.
