Cuban
Parliament President Says Obama Can and Should Release the Cuban 5
Havana,
Nov 11, (RHC).—
The President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon said in
Caracas, Venezuela, that if the United States were to release
the Cuban 5 and arrest
Posada
Carriles and his accomplice, that would be a real instance of
change toward Latin America.
Alarcon
made the statement as he was addressing the Venezuelan national
Assembly. He said that US President Barack Obama can, should and has
the moral, political, and judicial obligation of using his
presidential prerogative to release Ramón Labañino, Fernando
González, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández and René González.
Obama
himself spoke of a new beginning of relations with Cuba, he should
start by that, he should not repeat the same mistake of previous
Administrations of adhering to a policy of terror.
Alarcon
asked Obama to stop promoting war and the set up of military bases
and do what the peoples in Latin America expect him to do, which is
release the Cuban Five and arrest Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando
Bosch. Alarcon recalled that both Carriles and Bosh were involved in
such actions as the mid-air blast of a civil Cubana aircraft off the
coast of Barbados in 1976, plus other crimes in Venezuela and
Central America. Posada Carriles also ordered the planting of
explosives in tourist resorts in Havana in the late 1990s.
The
Venezuelan National Assembly expressed its solidarity with the Cuban
Five as they welcomed Alarcon and some of the relatives of the five
anti-terrorist fighters.
The
President of the Venezuelan Assembly, Cilia Flores said that it
doesn’t make any sense for the United States to pretend it is
leading the war on terror, and then incarcerate people who were
actually preventing terrorist acts.
