Two Titles on Cuban Five
Presented at Havana Book Fair
BY Madeleine SautiE
Two books were presented
on Sunday at Havana’s International Book Fair dealing with the case
of the five Cubans in prison in the U.S. for their monitoring of
ultra-rightwing groups in Florida.
The titles Les debo
verlos libres (Indebted to your freedom) and Estados Unidos vs Cinco
Heroes (The U.S. vs the Cuban Five), by the late Celia Hart and
Rodolfo Davalos respectively, are in the words of their presenters a
testimonial to justice and truth on the case of
the Five.
The books were
introduced to readers at the Fair by the president of the Cuban
National Assembly Ricardo Alarcon. The presentation, at the Nicolas
Guillen Hall of the sprawling La Cabaña, the Fair’s traditional
venue, was attended by Culture Minister Abel Prieto and relatives of
the Five.
Articles and letters
exchanged by Celia Hart with the five Cubans in prison in the U.S.
make up Les debo verlos libres, whose prolog was written by Mirta
Rodriguez, the mother of Antonio Guerrero, one of the Five.
Estados Unidos vs Cinco
Heroes is based on a series of articles published by lawyer Rodolfo
Davalos in the Cuban daily Juventud Rebelde and updated by the
author for this compilation. Alarcon called the book a legal
instrument in the struggle for the liberation of the Five. "Some day
there will be millions of books denouncing their case," charged the
Cuban top legislator. |
