Kenyan-Cuba Solidarity Groups Demand Freedom for
Cuban Five
Nairobi, Aug 7, (RHC).-
Kenya Cuba solidarity groups took the
opportunity of the visit to their country by
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to
raise their voices demanding the immediate
release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters
unfairly imprisoned in the United States since
1998.
In a letter addressed to the U.S. top diplomat,
the president of the Cuba-Kenya Friendship
Association and of the Social Democratic Party,
Mwandawiro Mghanga, recalls that U.S. President
Barack Obama had promised to put an end to the
negative record of his country regarding
violations of human rights both at home and
abroad.
In a second letter, handed personally to one of
Clinton’s assistants, the members of the
Cuba-Kenya and the Venezuela-Kenya Friendship
Associations, urge the U.S. Secretary of State
to urgently address several issues regarding
Washington’s foreign policy and the sovereignty
of the countries of the South.
That second letter also demands the release of
the five Cuban antiterrorists and the closing of
the U.S. Naval Base at Guantánamo. It also
condemns the coup d’état in Honduras and
expresses support for the cause of the
Palestinian people.
Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez,
Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez were
arrested and convicted to harsh sentences in the
United States for infiltrating extremist groups
in South Florida that were planning to carry out
terrorist actions against Cuba.
