Prestigious Chilean
women ask US first Lady Michelle Obama to
intervene on behalf of the five Cuban anti-terrorists
unfairly jailed in the US for over ten years.
Well known Chilean activists such as Mireya
Baltra, aide of late President Salvador Allende,
signed and circulated a letter addressed to Mrs.
Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and
House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
The letter
appeals to the sensitivity of those influential
US women to help solve the political and legal
case, proving to be one of the most
controversial and unfair in recent years.
The document
tells of the unfair imprisonment of Gerardo
Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino,
Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, and
the visas
denials to the wives of Rene and Gerardo,
preventing their ability to visit.
The petition
reads that it is signed by those who, from 1973
and over the years, have intimately endured the
consequences of terrorism, human right
violations and arbitrary legal procedures in
Chile.
It discusses how
the Cuban Five
warned against terrorist acts promoted from
within the US, never affected US sovereignty,
but rather helped save lives in both countries.
It also mentions
the 12
Amicus Curiae sent to the US Supreme Court
calling for review of the case. The
signatories include 10 Nobel laureates who have
championed human rights. (PL)
