Las Tunas: National Reference Candidate in Urban Agriculture

Producers of vegetables and fresh condiments will accentuate their efforts and get more efficient results in 2012.

Las Tunas .- Dr. Adolfo Rodriguez Nodals, head of the National Group for Urban and Suburban Agriculture, commended the province on the condition of National Reference Candidate, granted as a reward for the results achieved in this front of food production.

After a rigorous and detailed analysis on January 21 and 22 in the territory and, especially, the municipalities of Jesus Menendez and Las Tunas, in which 100 percent of the People's Councils were visited and 29 sub-programmes of Urban Agriculture, the National Group decided to give both areas a score 'Good' and the National Reference Candidate status, enough for the province also to be categorized as such, with 30 recommendations.

Nationally only the province of Pinar del Rio holds the national reference category and now Las Tunas that of candidate, an event that, in addition to generating happiness, becomes a stimulus for producers of vegetables and fresh condiments, to accentuate their efforts and get more efficient results in 2012.

Of the eight municipalities of the eastern province of Las Tunas, only Colombia has the status of National Reference, while "Jesus Menendez", Puerto Padre, Manati and Las Tunas that of Candidate.
