Las Tunas.- Forest workers form the eastern province of Las Tunas successfully accomplished the plans scheduled for 2011. They first sowed some 1378.5 hectares of plants out of the 1,310 scheduled, achieving the survival of over 85%.
With such a success, the province increased its wooded area to more than 14 percent, even though it is among the lowest in the country especially since the level of rain was inferior to its historic average.
Las Tunas, an emblematic province in the export of charcoal, had a production of 2,017 tons, which represent 289.6 tons above the plan, breaking their historic record from 2009 with 607.6 tons. The most outstanding municipalities are Las Tunas, Jesús Menéndez, Jobabo and Manatí.
The plan for woodchips reached 128%, the territories of Amancio, Jobabo and Colombia excelled, while they achieved 130% of sawed wood, since they produced 350.1 cubic meters over the plan. They also produced 1,549 wood pallets and 1, 075 bottle units.
