Bruzón added 3 points to his current ELO rating of 2691.

Las Tunas.- Cuban GM Lázaro Bruzón finished third in Group B of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, which concluded on Sunday in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee.

In the last round, Bruzón managed to defeat –with black pieces- the local Sipke Ernst, in 24 moves of a Reti Opening, obtaining for the second time the award for the Best Match of the Day.

The five-time Cuban champion achieved 8.5 points, the same as his Russian homologue Alexander Motilev, favored by a better tiebreak.

His performance: six wins, five draws and two losses, allowed him to add three points to his current ELO rating of 2691, getting closer to 2700.

The Group B, category XV of FIDE, was led from the start by the Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna, who accumulated 9 points.

The Fortissimo Group -13 of the 14 players in the roster above 2700 ELO rating- was commanded by the Armenian Levon Aronian, with 9 points. The leader of the world rankings, the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, was second with 8 points.
