Cuba and Cape Verde
Consolidate Parliamentary Cooperation
Havana, Feb 13, (RHC).-
The presidents of the National Assemblies of Cuba and Cape
Verde, Ricardo Alarcon and Aristides Raimundo Lima,
respectively, signed Friday, in Havana, a Parliamentary
Cooperation Protocol aimed at further strengthening
bilateral ties and providing a legal framework to the
excellent relations between both countries.
The document, to be in force for four years, promotes the
exchange of experiences between deputies and officials from
both legislative bodies; and represents a commitment to
consolidate links through parliamentary groups.
In addition, the Protocol stipulates the establishment of
technical teams responsible for defining areas of
cooperation and consultation on technical areas and
parliamentary services.
After the signing ceremony, Raimundo Lima thanked Alarcon
for the invitation to visit the island and for providing an
opportunity to establish a juridical framework favourable to
relations between the two countries and parliaments.
On the same day, the Cape Verdean parliamentary leader met
with Vice President of the Council of Ministers, Ricardo
Cabrisas. The two government officials expressed the will of
their governments to further consolidate the historic links
of friendship and cooperation that unite the two nations.
During the talks, held at the headquarters of the Council of
Ministers, the distinguished African visitor thanked the
island’s solidarity and cooperation, particularly in the
health and education sectors. He also acknowledged the
strength of the Cuban people and the way they are facing the
current crisis despite Washington’s blockade.
