Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo Awards Jose Marti National Journalism Prize

Havana, March 12, (RHC).- Miriam Rodriguez Betancourt, a professor for several generations of Cuban journalists, received the Jose Marti Lifetime Achievement National Journalism Prize from the hands of Vice President Esteban Lazo.

The awarding ceremony took place at the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana where the annual Juan Gualberto Gomez awards for 2009 were also presented by the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC).

Meanwhile, the Juan Gualberto Gomez awards in the categories of written press and television were for Francisco Rodriguez Cruz, with the Trabajadores newspaper, and Ismary Barcia, from Perlavision in Cienfuegos province, respectively.

Others who received the award were Demetrio Villaurrutia (Radio Rebelde), Roberto Figueredo Bello (Bohemia magazine) and Rafael Hojas (Trabajadores).

Present in the ceremony were UPEC President Tubal Paez and Rolando Alfonso Borges, head of the Ideological Department at the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party.
