Cuba and the European Union Hold Political Dialog in Brussels

Brussels, Nov 28,(RHC).— Cuba expressed on Saturday in Brussels to representatives of the EU troika the island’s willingness to advance in a broad spectrum of relations that includes both political ties as well as commercial and cooperation.

Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reiterated the island’s will of exchanging with the European Union issues of common interests and emphasized that political dialog must be held on the basis of reciprocal agreements.

He pointed out its unconditional character and non discriminatory, full respect of sovereignty of States and legal framework and both sides institutional order as well as the principle of non interference in the internal affairs of States.

The top Cuban diplomat met in Brussels with the Secretary of State of the Swedish Foreign Ministry that currently chairs the EU as well as Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos.

Also participating in the talks were Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid and Bert Hoffmann on behalf of the General Secretary of the EU Council.
Spain will chair the community block in the first semester of 2010.

Among some of the issues that were discussed were Cuba and EU cooperation, human rights, environment and climate change. The parts coincided in evaluating the positive march of bilateral cooperation.

Cuba and the EU troika agreed in characterizing the political dialog held in Brussels as productive and respectful.
