By Hernan Bosch

With a commercial production valued at more than 944 million Cuban pesos, the province of Las Tunas in 2009 expects to achieve a growth of five percent over the previous year.

It is significant for the territory, that despite the hit of two hurricanes in September and November 2008 increased in 29 percent its production in comparison with 2007, when  adding about 896 million Cuban pesos.

During the last session of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power (government), which approved the Plan of the Economy for 2009, was expressed  that although their results diminish institutions and ministries of the Sugar and Sidero-mechanic  Industry, others will raise.

Located about 670 kilometers east of Havana, Las Tunas is a territory that bases its economy on agricultural production, and is among the 14 Cuban provinces, the lowest historical average rainfall. (acn)
