Increased Egg Production in Las Tunas
Las Tunas, Cuba, Feb 10, (P26/ACN).-
Despite the severe damage caused by Hurricane Ike in
September 2008, egg production has risen in the
eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas.
The province managed to produce 66 million eggs
during the 2009, three million more than the
previous year.
The result was achieved thanks to the restoration of
facilities; a greater supply of feed and proper
management of the poultry, although, there is still
much untapped potential to improve general
efficiency in this branch of agriculture.
Engineer Waldo Torres, director of the Poultry
Company in Las Tunas, told the provincial radio
station Radio Victoria that they must work harder to
increase the number of birds which is maintained in
the production cycle; and also to increase the
average number of eggs per hen.
He said that in 2010 Las Tunas must achieve
3,000,800 eggs monthly to supply the local
consumption.
The poultry farmers intended to achieve this year's
production of 70 million eggs, four million more
than recorded in 2009.And move towards the goal of
exceeding the record of the province made in 1991,
as soon as possible, with 93 million units.
