Repression Continues
in Honduras
Tegucigalpa, July 1, (RHC).-
The military troops currently in power in
Honduras are trying to create the conditions to
justify increasing their repression against the
people, although the resistance movement is
keeping their protests peaceful. Reports from
Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, and other
cities throughout the Central American country
reveal that police and army troops continue to
repress demonstrations against the coup.
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, several
grenades exploded in front of the Honduran
Supreme Court of Justice in Tegucigalpa and a
local radio station that supports the coup
attempted to pin the blame on activists from the
social movements. Rafael Alegría, coordinador of
the Vía Campesina movement, told reporters that
the protesters do not have guns, bombs or
grenades -- pointing out that it is the military
that has these weapons and are using them
against the demonstrators.
Alegría also reported that workers in the
northern city of San Pedro Sula were forced by
their bosses to take part in a pro-coup
demonstration on Tuesday. |
