Demonstrators in Honduras Take to the Streets to Condemn Military Coup

Tegucigalpa, June 28, (RHC).- Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Tegucigalpa and other cities of Honduras to condemn the right-wing military coup staged early Sunday morning in the Central American country. There are reports that demonstrators are surrounding the Presidential Palace in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, demanding the return of constitutionally-elected President Manuel Zelaya.

Protesters shouted at the heavily-armed soldiers standing guard, calling on them to carry out a coup against their military commanders and not the people.

Military helicopters are hovering over the area of the Honduran capital and electricity and telephone service has been cut since early Sunday morning when the military coup was carried out.
