Dilatory Maneuvers by Honduras Coup Junta
Tegucigalpa, Nov
19, (PL).-
The National Front Against the Coup in Honduras
charged that a delay of debate in congress on
the restitution of institutional rule confirms
the intention of the de facto regime to maintain
power.
The day before the president of Congress, Jose
Alfredo Saavedra, announced that the restitution
or not of President Manuel Zelaya would be
analyzed on December 2, three days after the
general elections.
"This is a monstrosity and provocation by the
Congress" declared the general coordinator of
the Front, Juan Barahona and charged that it is
proof that the coup regime is not interested in
restoring democratic order.
For the front that groups dozens of popular
organizations the decision by Parliament
ratifies the illegitimacy of the election
process called for November 29.
The debate in Congress on the restitution of the
president is one of the points agreed to last
October 30 to try to solve the crisis.
However, the pact failed with regime head,
Roberto Micheletti, intended to form a
government of unity and national reconciliation
before restoring the legitimate president.
Zelaya denounced that paradox that while he is
in the Brazilian embassy surrounded by police
and military forces Micheletti is in the
Government House.
The Constitutional Head of State condemned the
position of the United States backing the
elections before restoring institutional order.
The president considers WashingtonâÖs position
as an enormous contradiction at first
recognizing him as president but supporting the
elections prior to presidential restitution that
supports the coup.
"I have declared to the world. There are no
conditions in Honduras to exercise the people´s
freedom and will to peacefully choose their
authorities," he added. |
