Washington Rejects Goldstone Report on Israeli Attacks against Gaza

Washington, Nov 4, (RHC).- The US Congress has reportedly rejected a UN sponsored investigation which says that Tel Avis committed war crimes during its military assaults on Gaza.

The House of Representatives voted on Tuesday 344 in favour of a non binding resolution calling on President Barack Obama to maintain his opposition to the UN report, drafted by a panel led by South African judge Richard Goldstone.

The report accused Israel of war crimes during the 22 day conflict in December and January.

Although the report also criticises Hamas, most of the criticism was directed against Israel´s aggressions in which human rights organizations say about 1 400 Palestinians many of them women and children were killed.

Democrat House Majority leader STeny Hoyer reportedly said that the report was “distorted”.

According to reports the US Congressional vote came a day before the United Nations General Assembly is expected to discuss its own resolution endorsing the findings of the Goldstone report.

The United Nations Human Rights Council, which sponsored the Goldstone Commission, has already voted to endorse the report.
