Fungus Discovered Capable of Producing Gas

Washington.- US experts have reportedly discovered a type of fungus capable of producing natural gas. Specialists from the University of Montana observed that in laboratory conditions under low levels of oxygen, examples of Gliocladium roseum can produce many of the components that make up diesel.

The fungus was found in the branches of a Chilean tree called Eucryphia Cordifolia.

Gary Strobel, main author of the research pointed out that these are the first organisms found that produce some of the ingredients of diesel. He added that the incident is a great discovery.

However, he considers that it is only an experimental step but the path is long and with many obstacles. (RHC)
