Finnish Friends Return to Las Tunas

The Victoria de Girón brigade of voluntary work, of the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association (AAFC) will arrive in this eastern province on Thursday, with the aim of carry out solidarity actions in support to institutions of the local health system for a week.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Finnish activists will concentrate its efforts the Emergencies service of the Mártires de Las Tunas pediatric hospital, where they have previously collaborated in other areas as the Polyclinic and the Rehabilitation Room.
Officials of the Delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) announced that the work program is completed with a tour to Omaja, a community that preserves the traces of the settlement of Finnish workers at the beginning of the last century; as well as they will hel meetings with representatives of the José Martí cultural society, the Association of Economists of Cuba (ANEC) and inhabitants of a neighborhood in this capital city.
The links between Las Tunas and the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association (AAFC) crystallized at the beginning of this decade and have had a positive impact on the repair of health institutions such as the Clodomira Acosta maternal home and the Provincial Pediatric Hospital. It has also allowed to increase mutual knowledge about cultural and social life and to make known the memory of the natives of this northern European country that lived in Las Tunas during the first three decades of the twentieth century.
