Almost 250,000 inhabitants of the eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas have already received their single booster dose of the Cuban vaccines against COVID-19, a figure that represents an 11 percent growth in just seven days.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to data from the Provincial Health Directorate, at the beginning of this week 249,923 residents carried on their shoulders a new dose of the nationally produced immunogens “Soberana Plus” or “Abdala,” as part of the national strategy facing the new outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2.

In keeping with their population, the municipalities of Las Tunas and Puerto Padre show the highest numbers of vaccinated people. Although, in the rest of the demarcations of the Balcón del Oriente Cubano, these protection action advances; as a matter of fact, nine and eight percent more of the planned population universe have been reached in Jobabo and "Colombia," respectively.

Faced with the rebound that omicron, the new variant of the coronavirus, caused on a global scale, the Cuban health authorities indicated the application of a single booster dose, which first included the adult population with a complete vaccination schedule and more than three months after the last dose. In the case of convalescents from COVID-19, previously immunized with “Soberana Plus,” they can receive six months since that saving puncture. For their part, convalescents (with positive PCR) who had already benefited from the full scheme at the time they became ill can be vaccinated again if the same time has passed since their infection.
