Toshimitsu Motegi also met the Cuban President

Cuba and Japan agreed here on the need to consolidate cooperation ties between the two nations.

Havana, Cuba.- This was revealed during a meeting between Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ricardo Cabrisas, and the Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP), Toshimitsu Motegi.

During the talks, the Cuban representative stressed that Motegi’s visit could be considered a milestone, both for its brevity and for taking place at a complex time, according to a national television report.

Likewise, Motegi, who is also a former Japanese Foreign Minister expressed his satisfaction with being on the island for the first time; and thanked him for the organization of an agenda of meetings at the highest level, which he described as fruitful.

Motegi met the day before with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, on which occasion both applauded the progress of mutual relations and expressed their wishes to deepen them.

The Japanese presence in Cuba dates back more than four centuries and next December diplomatic relations will be 94 years old. (PL)
