More than 1,300 research projects are being carried out in Cuban universities

Researchers, professors, and students from Cuban universities took their scientific work in 2023 to more than 1,300 projects, distributed in national, sectoral, territorial, and business programs, it was reported on Tuesday.

Havana, Cuba.- Ondina León, general director of Research and Postgraduate Studies at the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), told Granma newspaper that the results impact prioritized areas of the country such as food and nutritional security, energy, environmental protection, biomedicine, local development, public policies, digital transformation, construction, and water resources.

The MES institutions have a high scientific-technological potential, which is expressed in the management of knowledge and the results, the director said.

The official pointed out that one of the main contributions is shown in the experts’ knowledge demanded by the government system and referred to the fact that currently there is a stronger link between universities and companies.

She highlighted the technological achievement made in the use of renewable energy sources with local impact, as well as in the development of national energy efficiency.

In this context, she noted the link between the Ministry of Energy and Mines and Cuban universities, which contribute with their knowledge to the design of the domestic energy transition to use renewable energy sources. (PL)
