Representatives of several US solidarity organizations paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at Cuba's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in this city.

New York.- On Fidel’s 99th birthday, the event was also part of the cycle of activities leading up to his 100th birthday, to be celebrated on August 13, 2026, according to a diplomatic note.

In his welcoming remarks, Cuba’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Ernesto Soberon, highlighted the qualities and vision, as well as the relevance of thinking of one of the most prominent figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The internationalist legacy of the Cuban Revolution, conceived by Fidel as a moral duty and a historical responsibility, as well as the fundamental role of solidarity movements in defending people’s sovereignty and building a more just world order, was highlighted during the emotional event.

Participants reiterated their commitment to enhancing cooperation and ties of friendship between Cuba and the nations of the world.

They also remembered Cuba’s contributions in support of people’s self-determination, its educational and medical work in several countries, and the creation of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Physicians specialized in disaster situations and serious epidemics, founded by Fidel on September 19, 2005.
