Workers of the Anti-vector Campaign applied the products to avoid the mosquito proliferation

With the arrival of the hottest and rainiest months, alarms are raised about the transmission of dengue fever in the province. Puerto Padre is among the most complex territories; however, the health authorities are redoubling their efforts to keep the epidemiological panorama under control.

Puerto Padre, Las Tunas.- "From July, we began to notice an increase in the reactivity of the studied cases, which at that time were called nonspecific febrile syndromes, which translated into the number of positives in the IGM test," the specialist in Epidemiology Vivian Rivas Gómez pointed out.

In the last two weeks, the statistics record 388 positive patients, while the workers of the Anti-Vector Campaign have identified 218 outbreaks. Although the scenario is adverse -to say the least, it is impressive-; the responses from Public Health are immediate.

“We have carried out a group of actions to face the situation that we had already characterized in some areas, mainly that of the Romárico Oro polyclinic, where the sustained transmission since July is denoted. Among the tasks, two intensive adulticide treatment strategies were implemented in the most committed popular councils and medical offices. A slight decrease in the incidence rate was noted at week 38, compared to the previous one, an indicator that contemplates the number of reactive patients against whom they have been studied in the same period,” the doctor emphasized.

Within the demarcation of the "Romárico Oro", 28 medical offices, derived from 123 blocks, are under the inquiry of the experts. In the same direction of the methodological work is the availability of materials, key when it comes to minimizing the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

In statements to 26, Dr. Reni González Abreu, head of Vectors at the Municipal Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, assured that there are resources to deal with arboviruses, in which the imported abattoir stands out, with good quality levels.

The circulation of serotypes 3 and 4, the most aggressive, causes discomfort in convalescents after overcoming the disease.

“The sequelae that some people may have to depend on the variability of each person's immune response. Improvement in dengue patients should appear seven to ten days after symptom onset; although the decay, headaches, and lack of appetite may remain," Rivas Gómez explained.

Meanwhile, González Abreu urged the population to act with greater responsibility and cooperate in the inspections of the dwellings. “The operators visit the house every 21 days, while weekly autofocus control is required for more complete supervision. As well as the collaboration of organizations such as Community Services and Aqueduct, who have latent difficulties in public areas, i.e. leaks and micro dumps.

Likewise, the epidemiologist advocated for conscious behavior if symptoms related to the virus appear due to citizens' fear of hospital admission.

The community occupies a preponderant role to preserve collective health. Not to allow the mosquito to proliferate, plus the pertinent care, indicate the path to a safe environment. Achieving it is everyone's task.
