ACINOX Las Tunas does not give up the bet to the income that complementary productions can bring

Without losing hope of resuming its usual operations in 2023, the Stainless Steel Company (ACINOX Las Tunas) does not give up the bet, in addition, to the income that complementary productions can bring it, especially in the field of construction materials.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In 2022, the forced shutdown due to the lack of energy availability in the country made these additional items the only source of income for the plant. Although they did not completely replace the benefits generated by its traditional items (carbon steel billets and corrugated bars), they did bring more than 60 million pesos to its coffers, and connected it with new clients, both in the business sector and among social institutions and cooperatives.

These steps are part of the economic and social recovery strategy for the period 2023-2030, with the new approaches and requirements implemented by the country, qualified as Excellent by the Steel and Metal Business Group, and which is a reference for the rest of the companies of the organization, informed Master Eraldo González Arias, general director of ACINOX Las Tunas.

The company also has other certifications and endorsements that place it in a position to take advantage of every opportunity that opens up on the energy and raw materials front. That is the case of maintaining implementing and certifying its quality management system according to the NC ISO 9001:2015 standard, a requirement for its goods to be accepted in foreign markets. Likewise, the fact that its laboratory holds accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 enables it not only to accurately measure the quality of its steel but also to make the facility another source of income for related factories that need it.

Last year, the plant received recognition from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA) for being integrally Outstanding in both activities. While it has been awarded the National Environmental Award since 2007, as a testimony of its commitment to mitigating the impact on the planet and the health of its workers of a manufacturing practice that by its nature is usually very aggressive with the environment.
