The most outstanding members of the different branches were recognized

The Balance Assembly of the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Las Tunas analyzed the work of the guild in the period from 2019 to 2022.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The artistic vanguard of the territory debated about the fulfillment of the proposals that emanated from the 9th Congress of the organization, surfacing satisfactions, and dissatisfactions. Among the topics were the concern for safeguarding the heritage, the promotion of contests and scholarships, the need to cut red tape, strengthen cultural programming, improve the system of care for artists, and design concrete actions to consolidate the exercise of criticism.

"We are not in time for so many explanations, we are in time to do. We have to insist on the approval of beautiful projects that are already designed. We must take care of the artists' thinking. It is important to diagnose and follow up on different situations of vulnerable creators, as is the case of retirees. It is vital to constantly improve, comply with the statutes and defend everything that characterizes us. Art goes before and the institutions behind", said Marina Lourdes Jacobo, leader of the organization in the province, during the dialogue.

Writer Lesbia de la Fe spoke about the importance of consolidating the promotion of reading through actions such as the strengthening of school libraries and the training of their staff. She also referred to the need to develop projects aimed at senior citizens.

For his part, visual artist Leonardo Fuentes spoke of the urgency of creating spaces and generating strategies to educate the aesthetic taste of the population, "thus counteracting banality and forming a more cultured society."

Aleyvis Araúz, director of the Euterpe Choir, pointed out the need for fellowship to have a venue, especially when it will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. She also spoke about the need to update study programs and give adequate remuneration to experienced artists who work in teaching or other activities.

Meanwhile, art critic Iris Cruz emphasized the defense of heritage with examples and proposals, "since it is a matter of safeguarding cultural identity."

Material issues that threaten the presentation of musical groups, the urgent concern to definitively solve the infrastructural problems of the El Cucalambé professional art school, and seeking strategies to stimulate the publication of literary works and other topics were also on the agenda.

Luis Morlote Rivas, national president of UNEAC, recognized the work of the protagonists of the sector during the difficult scenario experienced in recent years, highlighted the role played by Lourdes Jacobo in the territory, pointed out the importance of institutional alliances to solve problems, and noted the quality of the assembly in general.

On occasion, the most outstanding members of the different branches were encouraged, the artistic value of the new members was recognized and those who were no longer physically present, but who left their mark on the cultural development of Las Tunas, were remembered.

The event was also presided over by Fernando Rojas, vice minister of Culture; Corina Mestre, vice president of the National Committee of UNEAC; Manuel Pérez Gallego, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province; Yelenys Tornet, the vice governor; Darlenis Urquiola, provincial director of Culture, and other authorities.
