Beans seeds are in high-demand

The Seed Company of Las Tunas foresees the growth of its main productions for the present calendar, despite the limitations generated by the shortages of inputs in high-demand items such as beans.

The entity's director, engineer Wilber Núñez Pérez, told the Cuban News Agency that for the first half of the year, they intend to stockpile some 258 tons of grains, including beans, chickpeas, and corn; as well as vegetables such as lettuce, and chili peppers.

Because of the growing demand in crucial moments for the Cuban economy, UEB intends to meet the needs of seeds, from the increase of its productions in a farm of more than 26 hectares located in the municipality of Manatí, and of vitroplants, mainly bananas, in the biofactory of the province.

Núñez Pérez also pointed out that the company plans to increase its profitability by closing the semester with a profit of 200 thousand pesos in coordination with the provision of several services such as technical assistance, equipment rental, and maintenance of the point of sale located in the community of Río Potrero, which was opened in 2022.

This year, by national decision of Seed Production and Trading Company, starting in May, the UEB will change its management and link it with new economic actors in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in search of a higher yield in the production and marketing of its products.

Despite concluding the previous plan with more than 120 thousand pesos of profit, UEB did not achieve the necessary increase, so the biggest challenge this year will be to multiply the basic seeds and achieve a higher quality in grains, viands, and vegetables that are destined for both producers and agricultural markets.
