A political-cultural gala at the University of Havana Saturday night, paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz. on the second anniversary of his death.

Havana, November 25 .– "Fidel is today necessary and vital. His accurate words, his denunciations against the horrors of imperialism, his concern for the planet and his solidarity with the humble of the Earth, are flags that will never fall from our hands ".

Those were remarks by Ronal Hidalgo Rivera, second secretary of the Cuban Young Communist League (UJC), during the political and cultural evening chaired by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Councils of State and Minister.

"Today we are not here to remember his absence," Hidalgo Rivera said, "nor to regret his departure to immortality. We are here because we feel his presence and because in these two years his stature has grown, his ideas have multiplied and his legacy has become more necessary."'

The event included musical and dance performances by some of the island's most renowned artists.

Meanwhile, this November 25, hundreds of people are paying tribute to Fidel at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, where his ashes are interred.

Activities in tribute are also taking place around the world, with a musical gala in honor of the late Cuban leader in Venezuela.

In South Africa, the African National Congress will also be paying tribute to Fidel in a grand ceremony in Bloemfontein. And the Cuban embassy in Moscow will also host a special tribute.

In a letter to the Cuban Ambassador in Nicaragua, the president of that Central American nation's National Assembly, Gustavo Porras, highlighted the legacy of Fidel as essential to continuing the struggle for freedom, justice and common good in the region.
