Díaz-Canel Sends Condolences to President for Dom Rep's Blast

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel sent a message of condolences to his peer, Danilo Medina, for the loss of human life and damages caused by the explosion in a factory in Santo Domingo.

 

Santo Domingo.- In a letter addressed to Dominican Head of State, Díaz-Canel said: "With regret we have known about the loss of human lives and the material damages caused by the explosion occurred at the Polyplas factory in the Villas Agrícolas district of Santo Domingo."

The Cuban leader asked to extend his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, on behalf of the Cuban people and government.

According to diplomatic sources, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also sent his Dominican peer Miguel Vargas a message of regret for the unfortunate event.

The accident occurred on December 5 and so far eight people were killed and at least 103 were injured, one is in critical condition. The factory and surrounding areas also suffered serious material damages, including homes and schools.

A report from the Fire Department in Dominican Republic, carried out in collaboration with those in San Juan, Puerto Rico, stated that the main cause of the explosion was a leak of natural gas when the hydrocarbon was sent to the company's main tank. (PL)
