Former Haitian Foreign Minister Claude Joseph

Former Haitian Foreign Minister Claude Joseph dismissed that a constructive dialogue could solve the national crisis without first addressing the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, he said during the meeting organized by Caricom that concludes today in Jamaica.

Port-au-Prince.- Joseph, who was also acting Prime Minister, affirmed that the question of justice for the head of State is a prerequisite and recalled that under the management of the current government “no one has yet been charged, tried or convicted in Haiti” in connection with the assassination.

The former head of State is participating in the discussions that have been taking place since Saturday in Kingston among some thirty political and social actors seeking solutions to the Haitian situation.

Joseph pointed out that the main task of a transitional government is to create the necessary conditions to organize elections, however, “the team in power has done neither one nor the other”.

After two years of interim government, no one is in a position to say when elections will be held, he said.

He added that the deplorable situation in the country leads to only one thing: keeping Ariel Henry in power.

For his part, Henry, who delivered a speech on Sunday, assured that Haiti is heading towards general elections, and reiterated promises to reshuffle the government, reform the high civil service, put order in diplomacy, and replace some of the temporary staff of the local authorities. (PL)
