Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad and Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Peñalver met in Baku

Media reported today that Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad and Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Peñalver reaffirmed the need to join the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Damascus.- During a bilateral meeting held in Baku, within the framework of the Conference of Foreign Ministers of the NAM, the two high-ranking officials expressed their position.

Solidarity among the countries of the Movement needs to be strengthened more than ever, especially in the face of growing global challenges.

They also discussed aspects of the upcoming summit of the Group of 77 and China, which will take place next September in Havana, the Cuban capital.

Al-Mekdad and Peñalver agreed to continue their efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

At the end of their meeting in Baku on Thursday, the foreign ministers of the NAM countries urged respect for the sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and political independence of all states, and their rejection of acts of aggression, occupation, and external interference in the internal affairs of states.

They called for concerted efforts to address existing and emerging challenges, including the fight against terrorism, expansionist ambitions, separatist conflicts, rejection of xenophobia, contempt for religions, “Islamophobia”, and incitement to hatred and violence. (PL)
