As part of the joint effort of the National Electric Union (UNE), the Vicente García contingent, made up of Las Tunas electrical workers, is putting light in the municipality of Matahambre, Pinar del Río province, the most affected by Tropical Storm Idalia in the western end of the country.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The engineer Carlos Arias Sobrino, general director of the Las Tunas Electric Company and in charge of the group formed by two brigades of linemen and three groups of services, confirms that they have already intervened in the rehabilitation of the primary networks of transmission and distribution, and reestablished nine circuits.

He describes the days of almost 12 uninterrupted hours of work in mountainous terrain as extensive and exhausting, during which they also replaced damaged transformers and dealt with various interruptions. He points out that, so far, they have returned the vital service to 14,561 clients in that territory, which represents 99.6 percent of the total affected.

Arias Sobrino confirms that they are scheduled to return on Tuesday with the mission accomplished, but the group's willingness is to remain until the authorities decide.

The manager praises the discipline and tenacity of his colleagues, who enjoy the happiness of the neighbors when, as a result of their work, light comes on in their homes, "that, comforts, stimulates, and relieves exhaustion," he emphasizes in the messages sent to this reporter.
