Forests Cover 31.1 Percent of the Cuban Archipelago Featured

This was reported by managers of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma), during a meeting with the specialized press, in which they presented the main results of the national environmental management during the aforementioned stage.

It was also reported that 69 percent of the forest area of ​​Cuba appears within the classification of protection and conservation forests, especially in prioritized watersheds. This favors a better attention to such precious heritage.

In the same way the actions foreseen for the restoration of beaches were also fulfilled, concluding all the technical projects with the quality required in their execution, while they added about 55 000 hectares benefited by the National Program for Improvement and Conservation of Soils.

The experience of demonstration sites provided for the preservation of natural resources continued to be generalized and there are already 158 existing ones, including the most recent ones created in the municipalities.

It was also announced that the province of Sancti Spirítus became the host of the main celebration of the World Environment Day (June 5), while Villa Clara, Ciego de Avila and Cienfuegos deserved the status of outstanding provinces.
