Havana, Cuba.- Tourism authorities checked the progress of the organization of the event, which will be dedicated this year to sun and beach tourism in Cuba's central-northern keys, which have become an extremely attractive site of reference for holidaymakers visiting the country.
Villa Clara is destined to become a tourist corridor for which the construction of seven hotels is planned in the municipalities of Santa Clara, Sagua la Grande, Camajuaní, Remedios and Caibarién.
Cuban Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero checked the status of the work in progress and told the press that it is necessary to boost the national industry, which can provide quality products that will help replace imports within the tourism sector.
In Villa Clara, 290 kilometers east of Havana, several theaters, commercial centers, gastronomic establishment and cultural facilities are being built, and recreational facilities and buildings of high heritage value are being remodeled.
Among the attractions of the province is the Santa Clara Restaurant Bar, which is attached to the hotel Los Caneyes, and the Commander Ernesto Che Guevara Sculptural Complex, which has a bar, shop, market, an international pharmacy, a restaurant and a tourist information center.
As the United Kingdom will be the guest of honor at the event, British Ambassador to Cuba Anthony Stokes told reporters recently that over 200,000 tourists from his country visited Cuba in 2017, with an upward trend in the next months.
The diplomat praised the beauty, safety and noble spirit of Cubans. He also mentioned that there are ongoing projects with joint participation between the Caribbean island and the United Kingdom. (PL)
