Mexican Minister of Health José Narro praised today the most recent collaboration agreements reached by the two countries, which will bring Cuban biotechnological products to his country, such as Heberprot-P.

Havana, Cuba.- "After its sanitary registration in Mexico, Heberprot-P, the only product of its kind in the world for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, will be available to the Mexican population soon. With this agreement we made important progress," he told Prensa Latina news agency.

Narro, doctor by profession, is concerned about the high rate of diabetes in Mexico, an issue that he described as one of the most serious.

He said that diabetes's death toll exceeded one million people in this century, "the death toll has increased and if we compare it with last year, the number was almost seven fold. It is a serious problem that causes other complications such as amputation," he said.

Regarding the feasibility of the agreement, Narro thanked the State Center for the Development of Medicines (Cedmed), the Cuban company that rules the production of medicines.

"Cedmed, as well as its director Rafael Pérez, has helped to make Mexican counterparts a point of reference in the region," said Narro.

"We also pledged to keep working together in that regard and update the agreements signed a decade ago," said Narro.

"We also committed to train human resources. Cuba and Mexico, both have great strength in training quality human resources," he said.

Visiting Cuba for the second time as Minister of Health and head of a delegation that participates in the International Convention 'Cuba Salud 2018', held here with more than 2,500 delegates from 93 countries, Narro praised the newly elected President of the Council of States and Ministers Miguel Diaz-Canel on April 19th.
