Orlando Rodríguez González.

“Working at the Ojo de Agua-Monte Cabaniguán Fauna Refuge means responsibility, love, dedication, sacrifice, and, above all, pride,” expresses Orlando Rodríguez González, the director of the base business unit located in Jobabo, to the south of Las Tunas.

Jobabo, Las Tunas.- “I started in 2011, as an economic officer, when it was subordinate to the Provincial Company, for about a year. The then director decided to leave and I was appointed to that position. At that time, we were about 60 workers and ad some 12 projects."

“At the beginning, I did not have all the preparation for the conservation work, I learned with the most experienced personnel; because the accounting part is specific, it is not the common accounting implemented in other organizations. I had to rely on others to guide my work and learn about conservation."

“After two years, I had already gained knowledge and I was encouraged, falling in love with the work of nature; I was a farmer but did not work the science. Manolito, now deceased, who was one of the greatest personalities of this project, helped me; thanks to him we were able to achieve the results we have today, especially, in the crocodiles’ area,” Orlando said.

“We have participated in national and international events; some workers have obtained their Master's degree with research carried out here, and have taken their knowledge to other countries."

Directing people of a higher educational level led him to greater effort in his work. “Leading this unit for so many years has broadened my knowledge of science, history, and the environment; leading people with such a highly developed intellect, in this branch of Biology, made me redouble efforts, and dedicate hours to specializing in each line of work. Having to direct technicians, masters, and doctors, entailed a lot of sacrifices.”

“When we achieve success I enjoy it to the fullest, and it is a great pride for me. I never thought of occupying this position and with relevant results both in the science and the productive areas; taking steps forward every day; already close to inaugurating nature tourism in different modalities; I still have work to do, but we will continue advancing."

Orlando has goals to meet yet, "among my dreams and desires is to see the nature tourism project fully operational, that the population is satisfied, that each client or researcher who visits us leave grateful for our services."
