26th Ánfora Magic Festival

The Ánfora Magic Festival is underway in Las Tunas, an event that adapted its traditional characteristics to fill multiple spaces of the territory with illusions until November 20; which this year is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the School of Magic Camagüey and the magician Fernando Rodríguez Vázquez, from Las Tunas.

anfora Foto ReyLas Tunas, Cuba.- The deterioration of the usual scenarios for the display of shows and the evaluation of the skills of participants, as well as a complex energy situation, determined that the 2022 edition will not be competitive, as the Organizing Committee pointed out to 26.

However, the spectacles will reach several municipalities, which is not usually possible due to the tight schedule set by the spaces in which performance in multiple disciplines and abilities is evaluated by a jury that, in more than two and a half decades, has gained prestige with the presence of great national and international artists.

Rodelay León Figueredo (Magician Rudy), the Ánfora’s artistic and general director, who also leads the host company, Huracán Mágico, explained that magicians from Varadero (Matanzas), Sancti Spíritus, Holguín, and the Granmagia company (from the province of Granma) participates; among others that will join during the Festival.

In the theoretical space, Manuel Castellano Alonso, founder of the Camagüey School, shared about the history of the institution and the magician Fernando. First, the pilgrimage to the Vicente García Cemetery was held, the usual activity to homage to José Reinerio Valdivia Valdivia, the unforgettable Magician Píter.

The night shows are transferred to the cabaret Bajo las Estrellas. Likewise, the art of illusionism will reach the communities of Calixto and Omaja (Majibacoa), Vázquez and Delicias (Puerto Padre), Chaparra (“Jesús Menéndez”), Manatí and 26th Ánfora Magic FestivalJobabo.

Several performances can also be enjoyed by children admitted to the Mártires de Las Tunas Pediatric Hospital, the Clodomira Díaz Maternity Home, and grandparents' houses.

The Ánfora Magic Festival was born in the Magic School of Las Tunas -created in October of 1989-, and it was held, for the first time, in November of 1992 with a provincial character. Two years later, the participation was extended to exponents from all over the country, with a well-earned prestige, to later include international artists.

After 26 editions, it embraces a tradition that dazzles the public attending the Tunas Theater, the usual venue for the event. In times of economic crisis and pandemic, Ánfora has managed to readapt itself so as not to lose the charm that feeds the work of well-engaged teams in the choreography of a trick.

The illusion of boys and girls, of those who refuse to grow up and marvel again and again at the mystery of the pigeons, the handkerchiefs, or the anthological Píter's hoops is there. Hopefully, Ánfora will regain the vigor and waste of paraphernalia to which we have become accustomed.
