Various cultural institutions have joined the celebrations for Mother's Day through initiatives, including Escena Abierta (Open Stage), starring theater performers from the territory.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- On the city boulevard, next to the Cadillac Hotel, members of the Los Zahoríes Puppets Company, Total Teatro, the Onilé Folkloric Company, and Huracán Mágico (Magic Hurricane) brought part of their creations to the population, marked by versatility and autochthonous humor.

Led by actress Elizabeth Borrero, the cast managed to arouse the attention of passers-by, demonstrating that art prevails over vicissitudes since the headquarters of these companies have difficult infrastructural conditions.

Magicians Fernando and Yan Carlos, for example, caught curious pupils with the manipulation of handkerchiefs, fans, ropes, and other accessories. While the young Lisandra Rivero and Yosvany Maceo, members of the first stage group in the province, Los Zahoríes, improvised highly comic verses, accompanied by the puppet Tornillo.

Actor Frank Herrera moved the spectators with his oral narration “The Boy and the Apple Tree,” which speaks of the need to give our parents more value. And Lilisbet Fernández Escalona, an acting student at the Manuel Muñoz Cedeño professional art school, in Granma, surprised with her powerful voice during the performance of a song.

Likewise, Elizabeth Borrero brought us closer to the poem I wish you time, by the German writer Elli Michler, set to music more than 40 times since it was written in 1987. And the members of the Onilé Folkloric Company, dressed in the colors of our flag, put flavor to the stage and closed the space to the rhythm of rumba, with people from the audience dancing.

Traditionally, this event takes place on the second Friday of each month and is committed to bringing art closer to the people and increasing their culture. This time, it was specially dedicated to the mothers, especially those in the cultural sector, who welcome the new generations of talents as their children to contribute to their training, for the good of our society.

OTHER CELEBRATIONS

The Peña Campesina of El Cucalambé Ibero-American Center of the Décima was also held. In addition to honoring the mothers, this proposal also paid tribute to the advent of the Day of the Farmer, to be celebrated on May 17.

The space, under the leadership of Tahily Berrey, included the performance of the Cucalambé Original Group, tonadas singer Dalia Macayo García, the repentistas Dimitri Tamayo and Guillermo Castillo, as well as the soloists Yaniuska Hernández and Taymara Portillo.

The improvised décima and the Cuban punto thus served as platforms to communicate messages full of love and Cuban sentiment, which also reminded valuable women in our history such as Mariana Grajales, the mother of the Maceo independent fighters.

On the venue of the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the gathering Del Verso a la Estrella (From the Verse to the Star) honored the mothers with poems and troubadour songs. Led by Marina Lourdes Jacobo, the event asked once again for the enjoyment of good art. The Desmelenadas exhibition, in the form of string poetry, showed how crafts can appropriate other knowledge to display more finished products of great cultural value. Poems by Dulce María Loynaz, read by the hostess, and themes authored by troubadour Richard Gómez also seasoned the moment.

Likewise, in various institutions, activities have taken place to mark the date. The José Martí Provincial Library, the Office of the City Historian, and the Provincial Center of Cultural Houses, for example, developed initiatives to homage to mothers in their staffs.
