BuscArte Initiative has been around for two years now. Although that's not a long time compared to other projects, it's making a name for itself in the visual arts world thanks to its interaction with audiences, the pooling of talent, and the motivation that's so necessary to drive innovative actions in times of scarcity and apathy.
Under the aegis of Gustavo Polanco Montero (Polankito), the dream took shape on March 1, 2023, and has since sought to influence the audience, particularly teenagers and young people. "I had the idea when I was working at Carlos Marx High School. I started taking my students to talk with visual artists. Artists such as Rogelio Ricardo, Eliades Ávalo, Jesús Vega Faura, and others. There, in their workshops, they asked questions, shared, learned...
"Then I continued with students from the El Cucalambé professional art school, with the support of Leo Mayo, and I intend to broaden the range gradually. I also take them to cultural activities and to appreciate sculptures. In this way, they not only gain knowledge but also improve their aesthetic taste," said the coordinator.
However, living up to its name, the Brotherhood has come up with other proposals. Some collective exhibitions have already emerged with their stamp. Lately, they have embraced performance art, an artistic expression that is not always common in these parts. This is how Estaciones was born, "a performance project that involved nine visual artists and fuses expression with movement and time in a visual journey where art is revealed as an infinite journey.
“It is inspired by the metaphor of the train and its stops. That's why we went to a railroad track and positioned ourselves, one after another, at intervals of three meters. With a camera, the scene was recorded, advancing like an imaginary train that, at the same time, is the viewer,” explains Polanco Montero.
Creating alliances with projects such as Zona Creativa, led by Leonardo Fuentes Caballín; promoting their work on the BuscArte Iniciativa Facebook page; as well as adding new creators and renewing themselves are features that distinguish the collective, because “BuscArte is more than just going out to embrace culture, it is also about finding oneself, not letting oneself be defeated by anything, and watering that beautiful plant that is art.”
