
Three professionals from the provincial Radio Victoria station, whose 72nd anniversary is celebrated this September 20th, were honored at the Vicente García Memorial, in Las Tunas capital.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Technical Merit Award was given to sound producer William Vázquez Sosa, with an extensive career, innovative ideas, and professionalism in ensuring the efficiency of radio broadcasts. "I have had good teachers, and I honor them every day. This recognition represents a commitment to continue doing a good job; ensuring the sound is produced with quality is part of my responsibility," he said.

Likewise, broadcaster Maura Peña Machado received the Micrófono de la Radio Cubana (Microphone of Cuban Radio), an award more than earned in her 45 years of uninterrupted work in the radio media. "The ‘Microphone’ captures my dreams, joys, tears..., all my hard work," said the emotional woman who captures the audience's hearts with the sweetness and composure of her voice.
Jorge Carbonell, a mentor to generations of broadcasters, received the title of Meritorious Artist of Cuban Radio, adding to his extensive list of achievements, which, among others, includes his membership in the National Broadcasting Tribunal. "Radio is my life. This recognition has greatly surprised me. Many people have congratulated me; I didn't know they loved me so much," he confessed.
William, Maura, and Carbonell received applause and affection from their colleagues in the presence of Radio officials, as well as political, social organizations, and union leaders. Also, guitar concert maestra Elvira Skourtis greeted the honorees with beautiful melodies.
