The 2025 edition of the CINEMAZUL Provincial Film Appreciation Festival was inaugurated in the lobby of the Tunas Theater. The event, which will run until the 23rd, returns with the organizers' stated intention of regaining the place it unquestionably held among lovers of the seventh art in Cuba.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The opening ceremony coincided with the opening of the collective exhibition of visual artists, featuring canvases inspired by the French films competing in this edition of the event.
Activities during these dates include film screenings at outreach centers and gatherings dedicated to local filmmakers, but the magic of the film debates will undoubtedly be the epicenter of everything.
This time, nine film club members will compete with films of notable value in French cinematography, to which the festival will be dedicated, as well as to the actor Alain Delon, the 130th anniversary of the creation of cinema, the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), and New Latin American Cinema.
The “Cinemazul” announces a grand closing gala, as is customary. For the occasion, the Las Tunas Symphony Orchestra will perform a special concert, including adaptations of pieces related to French films in its repertoire, to pay tribute to this unique event.
Because the Festival is not a gathering to honor films in and of themselves, but rather, about the film club member, who —marked more by self-taught study than by academic knowledge— disassembles the films, translates them, arranges them, and gives them their own meaning. A trait that distinguishes Cinemazul and keeps it, for the better, open to film debate.
