Late Doctor of Science José Guillermo Montero Quesada

The post mortem delivery of the 2021 Victoria de Las Tunas Provincial History Award to the Doctor of Science José Guillermo Montero Quesada marked a very special moment in the celebrations for the 225th anniversary of this eastern Cuban city.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The event took place at the headquarters of the Union of Historians and there, in the presence of his widow and one of his sons, the tribute was made.

A quick act, marked by the harassed words and the elusive glances of those who still feel the footsteps of "Guille" through that place, and long for how much he had left to contribute to these lands from his perseverance, and the simple way with which it seemed to be given the gift of uniting and summoning.

The jury, made up of prestigious experts from various areas of Cuba, highlighted the stamp of the researcher he was and, above all, his notable contribution to the researches about our local history; a kind of pending issue among the people of Las Tunas, in need of always consolidating our knowledge about this small region and the nobility of its people.

“Guille” was also awarded the Luis Galano Torres and the Julio Le Riverend Brusone diplomas, for his consecration to History, his sustained merits in research, and historiographical criticism.

Other scholars and researchers were also honored at the ceremony.
