Higher Education in Las Tunas celebrates 25th anniversary

After undergoing a rigorous institutional accreditation process that led it to receive the category of Qualified and participate in the recently held Universidad 2020 International Congress, Higher Education in Las Tunas is ready to celebrate the 25 years of being founded with new goals.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The evaluation, granted by the National Accreditation Board (JAN), is the result of the growth of the house of high studies from their majors and programs, scientific work and impact of the center, thus being the first in the country in being assessed with the new evaluation models of Higher Education in Cuba.

Aurora del Carmen Ramos de las Heras, rector of the institution, told the Cuban News Agency that the JAN identified 21 strengths in the process, mainly related to ideological-political work, the accreditation of excellence of four master's programs and one of Ph.D., computer services and information management, and the development of research in contribution to local development.

Meanwhile, the deficiencies, placed among the strategic projections for this year, reside in the low index and diversity in the doctoral training, the transit of the teaching group to main categories and the accreditation of careers.

Among the results of Las Tunas at Universidad 2020, the heading of a technical cooperation agreement between the Autonomous University of León, Nicaragua, and this institution in eastern Cuba, stands out.

Lucién Lozada, one of the members of Las Tunas delegation to the International Congress, reported through the institutional profiles in social media, it was signed a letter of intent between the Ambassador of the Republic of Honduras, His Excellency Mr. Andrés Pavón Murillo, and the University of Las Tunas, with the aim of strengthening academic exchange.

Higher Education in Las Tunas will be 25 years old founded next May, date up to which it arrived with a total of five faculties and 39 careers in their different specialties, of which seven are already accredited; as well as eight lines of research, more of 1,400 scientific awards achieved in the last five years, and 101 projects, among which the 21 that contribute to the business sector of the province stand out.
