Graduates with Golden Degree at Las Tunas University

With the joy that accompanies great collective achievements, the University of Las Tunas celebrated the official Graduation Ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year on July 21st. 1,281 new professionals from all study modalities graduated, recognized for their effort, dedication, and commitment to the country's development.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The University Rector, Dr. Yoenia Virgen Barbán Sarduy, presided over the ceremony and delivered the keynote address, highlighting the human and social significance of this new graduating class.

“Today, we celebrate not only the individual effort of each student but also the capacity of this university to train, with a deep ethical sense and revolutionary commitment, the professionals that Cuba needs in this challenging context. They leave today with the necessary preparation to contribute, from their positions, to the transformation of society,” the Rector stated.

During the ceremony, 103 Gold Degrees were awarded to students from the main campuses, distributed among the day course (49), the course for workers (52), and the short-cycle advanced level (2). Also, 61 such degrees were awarded at the Municipal University Centers, 27 in Puerto Padre, 15 in “Amancio,” and the remaining in Jesús Menéndez, Majibacoa, Jobabo, and “Colombia.”

The research achievements of 33 students were also recognized with the Scientific Merit Award for their active participation in research, publications, academic events, and innovative projects. The recognition, presented by the highest university authorities, reflects the institution's commitment to scientific education from the undergraduate level.

One of the most moving moments of the ceremony was the recognition of Adriana García Rivero, a graduate in Foreign Languages, who received the award for Most Comprehensive Student. Visibly moved, she thanked her professors, classmates, and family, and shared words filled with humility and motivation. “This achievement is not just mine. It has been a collective endeavor, where support, perseverance, and love for what we do have been key. I leave with the certainty that every effort is worth it when you dream with your heart.”

Yoenia Barbán, rector of the Las Tunas University.Rector Barbán Sarduy also recognized the graduates, who already have guaranteed job placement in local entities, and noted that the university maintains a constant commitment to developing competent and upright professionals, capable of responding to the country's economic, social, and cultural challenges.

In her final remarks, the highest academic authority highlighted the role of university professors and staff in training new professionals: “Nothing we are celebrating today would be possible without the commitment of our professors, true pillars of Cuban education. Their daily dedication has been key to reaching this moment.”

Furthermore, nine students were recognized as Integral Vanguard, and 16 for their outstanding achievements in teaching, research, culture, sports, social impact, communication, and student leadership.

The ceremony closed with a call to the graduates to continue building a future with responsibility, awareness, and love for their country. “Never forget that this university will always be your home,” the rector concluded, leading to applause from a community proud of its alumni and convinced of their role in the country’s transformation.
