The greatest challenges of the educational system lie in the teaching, moral, and formative spheres

Governmental and political leaders in the province, along with education authorities and teachers from all levels of education, recently held a wide-ranging debate on the main problems facing the education system today and strategies for its improvement.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the meeting, highly sensitive social issues were addressed, such as indiscipline in schools, drug use among adolescents, early pregnancies, bullying and its roots in family upbringing models, as well as unjustified absences, failure to complete schoolwork, and insufficient demands on the part of some teachers and instructors.

A critical and reflective tone marked the exchange. Participants agreed that, while material difficulties impact the school environment, the greatest challenges lie in the educational, moral, and formative spheres, where the family, community, and school must act together.

They also agreed that the phenomenon of bullying cannot be addressed solely through punishment, but rather through an understanding of its deeper causes, many of which originate in patterns of domestic violence or parenting that lack boundaries and affection.

“The educational system has the mechanisms and structures to address these problems, but we need greater involvement from all social factors,” emphasized Nílser Piñeda Cruz, provincial director of education.

Among the specific proposals that emerged from the meeting was the creation of a shelter for children and adolescents in vulnerable situations or those who wander the streets, an initiative aimed at guaranteeing their protection and reintegration into the educational system.

Likewise, emphasis was placed on strengthening methodological and preventive work in schools, reinforcing teacher supervision, and promoting a more comprehensive education with an ethical and humanistic approach that instills solid values from early childhood.

This dialogue was part of the process of continuous evaluation and improvement of the education system in Las Tunas, aimed at enhancing the quality of learning and consolidating the school as the primary space for citizen training.
