Yaneisy Machado Ojeda, director of the Francisco Muñoz Rubalcava Urban Pre-University Institute

The Francisco Muñoz Rubalcava Urban Pre-University Institute, with 860 students from all the local councils, is one of the schools with the highest enrollment in the province. It has reorganized its school schedule to address the current fuel shortage.

Among the main measures implemented, it was decided to maintain classes in a single session, from 7:45 AM to 2:30 PM, with six daily class shifts and one break.

Yaneisy Machado Ojeda, the school's director, explained that, in addition to classes, students dedicate one day a week to community service activities, such as planting, working in the urban gardens, and cleaning the school. In the afternoon, only students with learning difficulties receive support, following the appropriate channels and taking into account their residential area.

"Students have access to worksheets that include exercise guides on the material covered. In isolated cases, such as students from more remote areas like Barranca who cannot attend due to a lack of transportation, they are allowed to work from home with these guides and return the following day."

"Students preparing for entrance exams are concentrated at the Conrado Benítez Municipal Center, where they are working in double sessions. Meanwhile, the 12th-grade final exams will begin on March 23rd, thus concluding the graduation process."

"Although the official start time is 7:45 AM, flexibility has been established to admit students as they arrive, ensuring that no one is turned away for being late." All of this is under supervision and control, as part of the fundamental measures being implemented in the country to ensure the continuity of the teaching and learning process amidst the current limitations.

The director emphasized that the most important thing is for young people to continue learning and growing, regardless of external difficulties. “The essential thing is that our students feel supported, that they know the school is open to them, and that they will always find a place here to advance their education,” she stated.

Thus, the Francisco Muñoz Rubalcava Pre-University Institute continues to be a provincial benchmark, not only for its high enrollment, but also for the capacity of its educational community to adapt, reinvent itself, and keep alive the hope that, with collective effort, they can move forward.
