Andrys Domínguez Moreno, a twelfth-grade student at the Luis Urquiza Jorge Vocational Pre-university Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), won a gold medal at the sixth Central American and Caribbean Physics Olympiad, held virtually.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- A note published by the educational center on its Facebook profile highlights that 30 students participated in the contest representing Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Perú, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Cuba.

Both the disciple and his trainer, the experienced professor Alberto Mawad Santos, dedicated the result to the half-century of Pre-University Education in Las Tunas, the 30 years of the “Luis Urquiza” as an IPVCE, and very especially, to the memory of the recently deceased Doctor in Sciences José Luis García Cuevas, who was an outstanding university professional, a tireless promoter of work with talented students and of the activity of knowledge contests in our country.

The award is another proof of the talent and perseverance of the Las Tunas students and their teachers, who have not stopped preparing during this terrible time of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
