At this time of the year, the Villa Azul (Blue Village) wears different shades of gray due to the weather. Wet streets, dragging dirt and other debris, puddles, and a sea of little tranquility make up the urban landscape of Puerto Padre. Puerto Padre, Las Tunas - According to data provided by Joandro Vidal Sanchez, chief specialist of the Meteorological Station in the city, "we had an accumulated rainfall in the first four months of the year of 78.1 millimeters (mm), while the arrival of May was very rainy. Of the 31 days of the month, rains occurred in 17 of them, where 233.7 mm were collected.
"Compared to the historical collection for this period, there was 98.9 mm more rainfall. In other words, it has been quite favorable for the hydraulic system, but the preceding drought makes it impossible to match record figures for this stage."
The rain showers, especially in the afternoon, have been a break in the routine of the people of Puerto Plata. "There are many days of rain; however, only one of them exceeded 70 mm, to be more precise: 76.2. For example, we evidenced a continuous light rainfall of 11 hours and 55 minutes that deposited just over 33 mm. Even so, this calendar exceeds the three previous ones, in the same period," Vidal Sánchez explained.
Although the attention to the parameters in the reservoirs calls for serenity, there are other scenarios such as the spread of pests, the construction quality of houses, and the attention to low-lying areas that demand the attention of the highest authorities of the territory.
